Bush Orders Pay Cut For Contractors Rebuilding Gulf Coast.

The President has issued an executive order that will permit federal contractors to underpay workers who are rebuilding the Gulf Coast region. Under the Davis-Bacon act federal contractors are required to pay workers prevailing wages where the work is conducted, but on Thursday Bush exempted the requirement for contractors rebuilding the afflicted region. Congressman George Miller (D-CA) said “The administration is using the devastation of Hurricane Katrina to cut the wages of people desperately trying to rebuild their lives and their communities.”
