How Can You Win A War Without A Mission?

With the American People long ago having grown tired with Bush senseless war in Iraq, the squatter in the White House has decided to go on the offensive. But not with Iraqi insurgents, but with the overwhelming majority of the American People.

Last Friday, on Veteran’s Day, Bush decided to break with the custom of laying a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown, and instead spend the day using our tax dollars to bash his fellow Americans. Calling those who criticize this idiotic war “deeply irresponsible”, Bush criticized all those who opposed his failed foreign policy on the day normally reserved to honor our fellow Americans who have died defending our freedoms.

Bush went on to re-write history by claiming that his political opponents and indeed the entire world had the same access to information that he did. That, of course, is a lie. The nation’s various intelligence services all report directly to the Executive, and no other branch of government. It was the Bush administration, who days after 9/11 told his administration to link the incident with Saddam. When it had been proven that there were no ties between Hussein and bin Laden, Bush ignored the facts and made the connections anyway. Finally, the Bush administration set up the White House Iraq Group, a separate and new “intelligence” organization, run under the Defense Department, whose sole goal was to fix intelligence to the pre-determined policy of launching a war with Iraq.

With Saddam Hussein now gone, “mission accomplished” having been already declared, two Iraqi elections having been held, and a new Iraqi Constitution in place, Bush still refuses to even discuss a time table for withdrawal. The question must be asked: Why are we still there?

With more and more of our nation’s finest coming home in body bags, the Iraq War continues despite that nobody knows what the mission is, how it can be accomplished, and when we will know when it has been accomplished.

The United States, which once stood as the beacon of the world, and what every nation aspired to be, now is seen as the new Evil Empire, and is the most hated nation in the world, even in Europe. And now our nation’s Commander-in-Chief spends Veteran’s Day by spitting in the face of every great American who has ever put on the uniform . While, to date, 15,477 soldiers have been wounded in this idiotic war for oil, and 2,077 soldiers have been killed, the President has yet to find the time to visit a single one of them as they are laid in their final resting place.

Mr. Bush, when will you come clean with the American People? Why are we still there? What is our mission? And how do we know when we’ve won it, so our troops can come home?

=====>I believe that his comments were not aimed at the American people but those senators who were trying to re-write history. But I am sure you already knew that when you wrote that line.

=====>He was defending the soldiers' and marines' mission and the reasonwhy they are there. While your fellowe liberals were busy trying to make them look like Nazis. He was defending the good that they were doing instead of continuing to re-write history like your fellow libs. And yes they are deeply irresponsible for trying to forget that they too believed the same information that he did.

Bush went on to re-write history by claiming that his political opponents and indeed the entire world had the same access to information that he did. That, of course, is a lie. ====>Man you are really going to have to bear with me but do you really think that this hasn't been examined already? It is the liberal Democrats who are the liars. Wait. Let me show you what they were saying as well.....
Quotes from Democrats about WMD
"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

Quoted on CNN

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." — President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

Quoted on CNN

Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." — Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"We urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the US Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." — Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. "Hussein has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." — Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

Answer to a question at the Chicago Council of Foreign Affairs

"There is no doubt that . Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." — Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, December 5, 2001

Letter to President George W. Bush signed by 9 Congressmen, including Democrats Harold Ford, Jr., Joseph Lieberman, and Benjamin Gilman.

" We should be hell bent on getting those weapons of mass destruction, hell bent on having a credible approach to them, but we should try to do it in a way which keeps the world together and that achieves our goal which is removing the... defanging Saddam.." — Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Dec. 9, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." — Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

U.S. Senate — Ted Kennedy

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." — Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

Congressional Record — Robert Byrd

"When I vote to give the President of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat, and a grave threat, to our security and that of our allies in the Persian Gulf region. I will vote yes because I believe it is the best way to hold Saddam Hussein accountable." —Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9,2002

Congressional Record — Sen. John F. Kerry

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years .. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." — Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

Congressional Record — Sen. Jay Rockefeller

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" — Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

Congressional Record — Rep. Henry Waxman

"In 1998, the United States also changed its underlying policy toward Iraq from containment to regime change and began to examine options to effect such a change, including support for Iraqi opposition leaders within the country and abroad. In the 4 years since the inspectors, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al-Qaida members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001.

"It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein wiill continue to increase his capability to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East which, as we know all too well, affects American security."
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

Congressional Record — Sen. Hillary Clinton

"The Joint Chiefs should provide Congress with casualty estimates for a war in Iraq as they have done in advance of every past conflict. These estimates should consider Saddam's possible use of chemical or biological weapons against our troops.

"Unlike the gulf war, many experts believe Saddam would resort to chemical and biological weapons against our troops in a desperate -attempt to save his regime if he believes he and his regime are ultimately threatened."
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) Oct. 8, 2002

Congressional Record — Sen. Ted Kennedy

"There is one thing we agree upon, and that is that Saddam Hussein is an evil man. He is a tyrant. He has used chemical and biological weapons on his own people. He has disregarded United Nations resolutions calling for inspections of his capabilities and research and development programs. His forces regularly fire on American and British jet pilots enforcing the no-fly zones in the north and south of his country. And he has the potential to develop and deploy nuclear weapons... — Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

Congressional Record — Sen. Bob Graham

But inspectors have had a hard time getting truthful information from the Iraqis they interview. Saddam Hussein terrorizes his people, including his weapons scientists, so effectively that they are afraid to be interviewed in private, let alone outside the country. They know that even the appearance of cooperation could be a death sentence for themselves or their families.

"To overcome this obstacle, and to discover and dismantle Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction, UNMOVIC and the IAEA must interview relevant persons securely and with their families protected, even if they protest publicly against this treatment. Hans Blix may dislike running ''a defection agency,' but that could be the only way to obtain truthful information about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction — Sen. Joseph Biden

Congressional Record — Sen. Joseph Biden

"With respect to Saddam Hussein and the threat he presents, we must ask ourselves a simple question: Why? Why is Saddam Hussein pursuing weapons that most nations have agreed to limit or give up? Why is Saddam Hussein guilty of breaking his own cease-fire agreement with the international community? Why is Saddam Hussein attempting to develop nuclear weapons when most nations don't even try, and responsible nations that have them attempt to limit their potential for disaster? Why did Saddam Hussein threaten and provoke? Why does he develop missiles that exceed allowable limits? Why did Saddam Hussein lie and deceive the inspection teams previously? Why did Saddam Hussein not account for all of the weapons of mass destruction which UNSCOM identified? Why is he seeking to develop unmanned airborne vehicles for delivery of biological agents?
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), October 9, 2002

Congressional Record — Sen. John F. Kerry

"Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal.

"Iraq has continued to seek nuclear weapons and develop its arsenal in defiance of the collective will of the international community, as expressed through the United Nations Security Council. It is violating the terms of the 1991 cease-fire that ended the Gulf war and as many as 16 Security Council resolutions, including 11 resolutions concerning Iraq's efforts to develop weapons of mass destruction. — Sen. John Edwards, October 10, 2002

Congressional Record — Sen. John Edwards
So I guess then Bush wasn't a liar now or is he now just in good company???

With Saddam Hussein now gone, “mission accomplished” having been already declared, two Iraqi elections having been held, and a new Iraqi Constitution in place, Bush still refuses to even discuss a time table for withdrawal. The question must be asked: Why are we still there?
=====>Well then why are we still in Europe, Japan, Bosnia, the Phillipines, Cuba? We are their until the Iraqis can do it for themselves. That's why. If we leave then the insurgents would take over. We had this same problem after the Nazis and Imperial Japan fell in WWII. If you put a deadline all Al-Qaida has to do is wait it out until then and they declare victory.

With more and more of our nation’s finest coming home in body bags, the Iraq War continues despite that nobody knows what the mission is, how it can be accomplished, and when we will know when it has been accomplished.
====>The soldiers and Marines know the mission. Obviously misguided liberals likew yourself don't. Funny how you consider them "our finest" when you want to criticize Bush and politicize their deaths but then bash them when you want to show how evil America is.

The United States, which once stood as the beacon of the world,
====>It still is to those who appreciate their freedom...

and what every nation aspired to be,
=====>And they still do...

now is seen as the new Evil Empire,
====>Only by the liberal and the leftist and the anarcho-socialist.

and is the most hated nation in the world, even in Europe.
====>Yes, Until they fall apart like they usually do and then come running to us for help. Notice we aren't running to those who hate us for help???

And now our nation’s Commander-in-Chief spends Veteran’s Day by spitting in the face of every great American who has ever put on the uniform .
=====>No sir. I wore that uniform and I understood what he was saying. Only a linguini-spined liberal like yourself would see things that way.

While, to date, 15,477 soldiers have been wounded in this idiotic war for oil,
=====>War for oil? BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Haven't heard that one yet! Someday you will have to explain to me why the price of oil hasn't gotten any cheaper after all of the oil we "Stoile" from both Kuwait in 1991 and Iraq.

and 2,077 soldiers have been killed, the President has yet to find the time to visit a single one of them as they are laid in their final resting place.
======>He is running a war sir.

Mr. Bush, when will you come clean with the American People? Why are we still there? What is our mission? And how do we know when we’ve won it, so our troops can come home?
=====>You know the answers but I think you are afraid that you might be wrong....

---->I wonder what it's like to live your life as a misguided liberal. Must be tough. Thinking that you really care about the soldiers fighting this war while at the same time diminishing what they do as something barbaric and making them out to be baby-killers and such. Spouting out the idiocy of "Bush lied" without including the other Democrats who lied with him. But I also noticed that no one is ready to refute the facts and the facts are that Bush never lied. Unless you are willing to inculde your favorite liberal wacko Dem's who supported him way back then and want to re-write history. Although I learned what a conservative was the other day. It's a liberal who's been mugged by reality. And by the way Alva only spouts out the wacko liberal talking points put out by the Democrats and liberal media.

Interesting reading here. It tells about how America won the war but is losing the peace. Sounds familiar doesn't it. The only problem is that it was written in 1946. The articles sound awfully familiar to the ones being written now but history shows us the Europe did just fine when a tyrrant was removed.

Macdonald,
Generally, I don't even bother reading his posts anymore. For one, I don't need someone to tell me what I already said, and then make a comment on it by putting a "====>" next to it. Secondly, Miami long ago lost all credibility whatsoever. Go back and read his comments on the post "Better Ingredients, Better Pizza, Employees Who Can't Speak English." He trashed me for raising a concern that Papa John's drivers can't speak English. I figured that might be understandable from his position considering his Cuban heritage. However, look at his comments on my post "What I Didn't Find In Alabama: Civilization." He trashed me again, and paid no mind for one of his fellow Republican Alabamans calling a Hispanic woman "a spic."

That tells you all you need to know about Miami. He's a misguided fool, who been trained to believe the Republican talking points, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, even if that very Republican party is screwing him over as well.

We can at least be glad that people like Miami are in a tiny minority, and that chances are this nation will again improve (with Miami blowing a fuse the entire time). People like Miami rarely see the writing on the wall unless they are shown first hand undeniable truth of the failure of conservative politics. There is over 2,000 years of clear proof of this, and yet Miami will most likely deny it until the day he dies, unless of course if this nation goes through another Republican-born Great Depression.

I keep hoping that day won't come, although all of us have learned the hard way, after living through 9/11, the Iraq War, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, that as long as this fascist is squatting in the White House, never say never.

===>Sadly I am the only one who even CARES what you are saying. The reason I repeat what you say is to remind you of how ridiculous you look. It helps prove the point so that later one can't say that they didn't say that. You know how the Dems and Libs like to say that they didn't say what they said when they said it way back when supporting the war was popular. But I know you read my posts. I am the only one who even responds to your idiocy.

=====>You lost your credibility when you called yourself that wonderfully creative pseudo-scoialist term "anarcho-socialist". As if no one can clearly see your socialist agenda.

However, look at his comments on my post "What I Didn't Find In Alabama: Civilization." He trashed me again, and paid no mind for one of his fellow Republican Alabamans calling a Hispanic woman "a spic."
======>I was exposing you for the elitist you are. By the way I am not offended by someone calling me a "spic".

That tells you all you need to know about Miami.
====>Yeah that I am right and you are, well, left (wrong really)

He's a misguided fool, who been trained to believe the Republican talking points, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, even if that very Republican party is screwing him over as well.
=====>Yeah like Bush lied. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Like this is a war about oil! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!Never heard that one before! And like Castro and Chavez are relly great guys! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah if I am misguided than you are not even on the map.

We can at least be glad that people like Miami are in a tiny minority,
====>51% does not equal a minority....

and that chances are this nation will again improve (with Miami blowing a fuse the entire time).

=====>Yeah it was a Democrat that put us in our worst recession ever. Remember Carter??? The economy has done great since Bush won, that's right, won both times. But you can only lead a horse to water.

I keep hoping that day won't come, although all of us have learned the hard way, after living through 9/11, the Iraq War, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, that as long as this fascist is squatting in the White House, never say never.
=====>HAHAHAHAHA. I totally forgot about the hurricanes! Let's see by your summation Bush caused the following:
A. 9/11
B. Hurricane Katrina
C. Hurricane Wilma
D. And Saddam to play the UN like a pimp!

Hey I am sure if we wiat long enough we can somehow tie Bush to the assasination of Kennedy as well.

With the exception of South Korea who is still technically at war with the North we still have troops in those areas that we fought in years earlier! No one promised you a quick war.
