FEMA Taps Firefighters To Hand Out FEMA Fliers.

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that despite New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin’s repeated pleas for additional firefighters to be sent in to help in the relief effort, as his own are exhausted, FEMA instead deployed 1,000 firefighters for community-relations, handing out fliers with FEMA’s phone number. In preparation for the work, FEMA placed these 1,000 firefighters in a Sheraton Hotel conference room in Atlanta, to undergo an 8-hour training course on sexual harassment.

However, some of the firefighters were assigned a different job. 50 of them were sent onto a flight headed for Louisiana. The crew’s first assignment was to stand beside President Bush for his photo-op during the tour of the afflicted areas.

What you failed to realize is that the call up of these firefighters was specifically for non-operational duties. it was clearly explained to me when I put my application in. Any firefighter who didn't understand this cannot blame FEMA. The article was clearly written to embarass FEMA and the reporter clearly used his headline to so. FEMA called up firefighters because thye had a need to fill these positions and the quickest way was to tap into the community of firefighters who have already passed background checks, have fingerprints already on file with their respective state agencies, and are used to handling government work.

If these firefighters were expecting something different than the breakdown was elsewhere. Personally I am on the list to go as well and I should be getting my deployment information today but I am in no way expecting them to place me in the position of fighting fire or search and rescue. i am not even bringing that equipment with me.

Here is the link to the FEMA application. Read it and you will see that the work is of non-operational nature.

That's the point. A complete waste of men trained to aid in rescue operations and firefighting. Exactly what was sorely needed.

This shows poor planning and lack of organization and management, at the very least. Not to mention a heartless disregard for the victims of the disaster.

Anyone could have done what they were using these men for. Even a trained monkey, like Bush for example, could have managed that job.

Boy of boy miamimiami,
Looks like you've been taken straight down to the mat yet again. Better tap out now before it gets really painful.

G Jackson please try to understand that charmaine has been not only taken to the mat by me on more than 10 occasions but I have bascically smacked her ass also. Pay attention...

=====>No you ,again, misunderstood but that's nothing new. FEMA already had those sources en route and available. FEMA needed firefighters because they already needed them for a different mission. The mission that they are needed for is called a Community Relations mission. FEMA normally hires regular old civilians to do this but due to the enormity of the situation they needed to tap a source of individuals who are already passed a criminal backround check and can hit the ground running. By the way we have done more than just "hand out fliers". We have actually found people who could not get to FEMA because they have no phone or transportation. We have found people and fed them, gave them much needed hydration, temporarily provided roofs for them and helped clear trees from their homes.

This shows poor planning and lack of organization and management, at the very least. Not to mention a heartless disregard for the victims of the disaster.

=====>Idiot, let's get something straight. FEMA is a coordinating agency. They had to coordinate a very large amount of resources to get aid to the people that the Mayor and Governor forgot about.

Anyone could have done what they were using these men for. Even a trained monkey, like Bush for example, could have managed that job.
======>So then why aren't you here then? Or maybe this task is too difficult for you to do? The fact is there are approximately 3000-4000 firefighters here in the states making a huge difference. Even if it is just the fact that people get help filling out forms, getting emergency food stamps, getting tarps on their roofs, having the yards cleared of downed trees, or helping them find temporary housing it is us firefighters doing it. Not people like you sitting down at their computer sipping their frappaccino and criticizing. If you really gave a shit maybe you would be out there feeding these folks. But I guess it is beneath you to do it.

Put up or shut up bitch....

And
that's
kicking
your
ass......
