Atlanta’s Solution To The Homeless Problem: Make Homelessness Illegal.

The Atlanta City Council has voted to make panhandling illegal in much of the city. Third-time offenders will be jailed for 30 days and face a $1,000 fine. No word yet if some of those homeless folks were among the thousands of city workers who was given a pink slip in 2002.

Alva,
I am going to go on a limb here and say that you probably haven't dealt with or even have talked to more than 2-3 homeless folks......

It's amazing how people from all over the world can come here and make a living but we have folks who choose, yes choose, to be homeless.

Shameful...

Miami,
shortly after I graduated from high school, I came across some bad luck and spent 6 months homeless. Since then, I have given 5 different homeless people a place to eat and sleep to help them get back on their feet. Almost NOBODY chooses to be homeless, and the only ones that I've ever met who has, had some sort of mental illness.

=====>Well here in South Florida almost every homeless person I have come across, and I have come across a lot in my line of work, were alcoholics. Most of them were getting disability checks for having cirhosis of the liver (from drinking) to the tune of 750 to 1400 bucks a month. I don't believe that anyone chooses to stay homeless for a short time but those who are homeless for years on end are usually the vitim of their own demons.
