Bush Abandons His Base.

In a move that has shocked and angered much of his conservative “pro-life” base, President Bush has nominated Harriet Miers, his own personal attorney, to replace Sandra Day O’Connor on the United States Supreme Court.

Miers, 60, has never served as a judge, and is currently White House counsel and was Bush’s personal lawyer in Texas. Miers was Bush’s personal counsel for his 1994 campaign for the governorship of Texas.

The nomination has angered those on both the left and the right, the conservatives for not pushing forward a judge with a proven conservative pro-life record, and the left because it has demonstrated yet again Bush’s love for cronyism.
