Private Paramilitary Mercenaries Deploy In New Orleans.
Common Dreams is reporting that heavily armed paramilitary mercenaries from the private security firm Blackwater are openly patrolling New Orleans. Infamous for their work in Iraq, some of the mercenaries say they are on contract with the Department of Homeland Security and have been given the authority to use lethal force.
Blackwater mercenaries are some of the most feared professional killers in the world, and are accustomed to operating in Afghanistan and Iraq, with no worries of legal consequences to their actions. Some of the men patrolling New Orleans returned from Iraq just two weeks ago.
Blackwater rose to international prominence after 4 of its men were killed in Fallujah, and two of their charred bodies were hung from a bridge in March of 2004. The killings sparked the seize of Fallujah later that year.
