GOP Blocks Numerous Investigations Into White House Corruption.

Despite that a CNN/USA Today Gallup poll shows that 70% of the Americans support an independent investigation into the federal government’s failure to respond to Hurricane Katrina, Senate Republicans have rejected a proposal by Hillary Clinton for such an investigation on a party line vote of 54 to 44.

This marks a continuing strategy by the GOP to simply block all investigations into White House wrong doing. In the House, Republicans blocked attempts by Democrats to force the Bush administration to reveal pre-war intelligence documents about Iraq in connection to the Downing Street Memo. The British memo shows that the United States has planned to attack Iraq a year before the war began, and that intelligence was “fixed” to justify the invasion.

Last Wednesday, Republicans on the International Relations and Judiciary Committees rejected attempts by Democrats to force the Bush administration to turn over information and records in relation to the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame.
