The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health has found that in Australia and in England, between 1901 and 1998, suicide rates have consistently gone up under conservative regimes and have gone down under liberal ones. Men were 17% more likely to take their own lives, while women were 40% more likely to do the same under a conservative government. The figures suggest that in England 35,000 people would not have died if conservatives had not been in power.
